"Here are a few pics of my 200 + moose collection, the sheets (not seen) have moose of course, as do the comforters that also match the curtain between the beds. There are many sets of slippers, backpacks, pens, coins, checkers, tic tac toe, hand puppets, pogo moose, pillows, singing, animated, playing cards, calendar, signs, lights, pot holders, toilet paper holders, center stand, clock and other assorted moose stuff. And oddly enough, with this large collection, I live near Mickey Mouse in Florida. Dale.
Mooseworld: This is a collage of many photos but there must be a sleeping area in there somewhere! "Hi. I stumbled upon you site tonight—since I am a relatively new collector and fan of moose, I wanted to contribute. I have only been collecting moose for two years, but this next Christmas, I will have a total of three separate trees in the house, decorated with only moose ornaments. My kitchen is completely outfitted in the Tienshan Folkcraft Moose Country pattern, and plush and other moose decorate every other room in the house. For years I collected holstein cows (having gone to school in Vermont, it seemed appropriate). But I remembered a cool lady moose back in Lyndonville, who ruled the back road from the college to the town. And since I'm hoping to relocate to Minnesota in the near future, I thought it more appropriate to collect moose. Count me in as yet another moose fan! and, yes, we have them here in Washington state. (I have yet to see one in person; living in the Seattle/Tacoma suburbs, they don't live around here.) Thanks for all that you do. Lauri." Mooseworld: There may be more moose in Washington than Minnesota. See Minnesota's Moose Mystery.
"After being called Moose for many years, collecting them myself and from gifts, I had many moose t-shirts. I grew tired of some and out of others, some I didn't want to wear and tons of others. I decided one day to use a bunch of them to make a t-shirt quilt. This is the second one made from 37 shirts. It was fun to do and we are using it on the bed, not just for show. Caroll (Moose)." Mooseworld: Let's say each t-shirt cost $20; that's a $740 quilt! "I just found your neat Web site. I too am a moose collector big-time. I have been collecting for about 12 years and have lots. My friends call me the moose woman. I have two real moose antlers friends gave me, dishes, moose throw, comforter, sheets, shower curtain and bathroom decor, stuffed animals, knickknacks, toilet paper holder, picture frames, and a whole lot more. For the last three years I have decorated my Christmas tree totally in moose ornaments I have collected. I was born and raised in Maine so saw a lot of moose growing up. I now live in Virginia and my moose are quite an eye-opener to people here. I make a trip home to Maine every summer and always stop at Mangey Moose in Freeport, Maine to shop. Martha." Mooseworld: In Maine you can see a lot of moose too. See our moose travel section and the moose sightings and photos from our contributors. "I have been collecting moose stuff for five years now. I can't figure out how it started but I am HOOKED! Here are two photos and a list of what I have:
pair of moose candle holders 2 moose wall hangings (one holds mittens!) a moose comforter a moose fleece blanket 2 matching moose oven mits a set of 2 moose pot holders with a matching moose oven mit 2 moose wall shelves 11 moose figurines (wood, plastic, glass, and plaster) 2 moose t-shirts moose night gown moose slippers with jingle bells cookie jar pair of Christmas stocking hangers dozens of Christmas tree ornaments 1 blue and 1 pink flannel moose baby blankets a pattern to crochet my own moose afghan moose wind chime moose window hanging moose refridger magnet a dozen moose post cards a moose mug and a moose shot glass moose nightlight moose address labels moose Christmas dish playing cards a game called "There's A Moose In The House!" moose hat with antlers moose purse moose Christmas cards moose wrapping paper and more, I just can't think of. Cindy." Mooseworld: With that many moose on the sofa (Cindy says 36), we hope she has a wide screen TV! "I am eighteen years old and was born "Elizabeth." That changed to "Beth," then "Beth-a-mus," "Whine-a-mus" (my dorky father's creation), now it is "Bethy Moose," or just "moose." When I was getting to know my husband, he told me his favorite animal was moose, but would not believe me when I said I was a moose. I have a collection of stuffed animals (of moose), ornaments, pictures, and the childrens' book If You Give a Moose a Muffin. My husband calls me "Baby Moose," "Wifey Moose," or "Moo-Moo." I love your site, but wish it contained moose items for sale. Thank you for all the love." Mooseworld: Dear Elizabeth, Beth, Beth-a-mus ... Baby Moose, Moo-Moo ... well—you get the picture. But Mooseworld does sell moose products! Put your cursor over Moose Products at the top of the Mooseworld home page: the drop down menu shows our Book Shop (where you can buy If You Give a Moose a Muffin and many other books), the Online Store (where your husband and father seem to owe you at least a Mooseworld Jr. Spaghetti Tank) and the Moose at Amazon.com store (Moose Munch). Perhaps to top it off: a Mooseworld license plate frame! "My maiden name is MOOS—pronounced MOOSE—and I have five sisters. We each collect "moose articles" and send each other something MOOSE each Christmas. I have pillows, ornaments, blankets, pins, jewelry, even a moose wine holder. I look forward to the holidays because there is so much "ChristMOOSE" out there." Mooseworld: Thanks for writing on behalf of the five "moose" sisters. "I'm Ann and I'm 68. I've been collecting moose items for about four years so I don't have a lot yet. But I do have: Mooseworld: That's a pretty good collection for four years. Mooseworld users now have access to more moose items through our Amazon.com store. "A real site you can talk about your love for a moose. I am just nuts about a moose. I wish I had a camera and I could show you how much I love moose. I have jigsaw puzzles, hand towels, books, curtains, pictures on the wall. I have figurines, and I even have a neat toilet paper holder with moose wearing a blue sweater. My friends all think I am nuts but that's ok. Is this group type thing when you can join other moose lovers who enjoy collecting moose items? Thanks for listening to my love for a moose. Linda." Mooseworld: Well, if by "group thing" you mean message boards and social interaction, no. But if you mean having a favorite site that is shared by moose lovers world-wide, yes! "I am a true moose-aholic! I have over 315 moose items ranging from over 100 stuffed moose to moose pictures, magnets, calendars, shower curtain, wall hangings, plaques, etc. I can never get enough of the cute critters! My husband even answers our phone "house of moose"! I can't believe that I just found this site—and I love it. I would abosolutely love to hear from other "moose-aholics"! I believe my obsession began with Captain Kangaroo— anyone remember Mr. Moose? I loved him when I was little and I think that is what started me on my "moose" road. I am still trying to find a Mr. Moose for my collection. From my alpha moose, Woody, to my largest moose (5 feet tall) Murphy, I love every single one of them! Tami." Mooseworld: We haven't counted the moose items in collections mentioned below, but we'd have to say that anyone with 300+ items has to rank right up there. As for "Mr. Moose," if you Google that term you find Mr. Moose patterns and a Mr. Moose costume. The latter is a little expensive, but just think how you could answer the door as Mr. Moose too! "Hi, my name is Becky. I have been a collector of moose items for nine years. What started me collecting them was I was on my way to work one day—we live in the Adirondacks—when something came out of the woods and started running down the road. I thought it was a horse, but when I got closer I saw it was a moose. It stopped and stood across the road, then it went into the woods. Of course, there was no one else around to back up my story. So I collect as many moose things as I can. I have: And I am still looking for more! I am looking for the perfect sweater now. I bought my mother one for Christmas one year, and I should have got one for myself." Mooseworld: When we used to feature all of the current season's moose products in "Bobbi's Picks," we had many moose sweaters. So chances are Becky will be able to add to her collection—and catch up with her mother as well. ![]() "My name is Natalie and I am 20 years old. I am so intrigued by the most beautiful creature to ever walk the Earth, the MOOSE! My future goal is to become a Librarian and write children's moose stories. I also want to become a moose tour guide in Maine. This is a picture of some items included in my moose collection that I would love to share with my Moose pals. Mooseworld.com is the #1 Web site and is of course my homepage. Thank you so much! Have a happy day." Mooseworld: Natalie has won us over in several ways: she loves moose; she loves Mooseworld; and she has plans to write moose stories and be a moose tour guide. She's got a great start on her moose collection too. Thank you, Natalie.
"I just wanted to let you know that I have designed my own moose bench and I wondered if you would like to see a picture of it? Debbie." Mooseworld: We're not sure how many other moose items Debbie has, but this one surely is a centerpiece of the collection. Well done! "My name is Marshall, I am 14 years old and I have been totally devoted to moose since I was 6 years old. I hope to one day adopt a moose of my own, nothing would make me happier. I have: Mooseworld: Marshall may be our youngest collector—having started at six—and the way he's going he may catch up with some of the mega-collectors below! "I live in the UK and have been a member of Moose International for seven years. Through this I have become a big fan of moose and started to collect moose soft toys last year. Everyone here thinks I am mad, but after seeing the collectors you have [featured] I am pleased to see I am not alone! I only have about 26 moose animals, but after viewing your Web site and reading the things everyone else has, I want more! Unfortunately, it's harder to get moose items in the UK. I think I'll have to just save up and get over to America or Canada! Thanks so much for sharing this site with us. Could I link you to my MSN group, Moose Pals, so that other members of Moose International can visit your site? Debbi" Mooseworld: Sure, we would like to have visitors from Moose International. And good luck with your collection. One way to get something delivered internationally is to visit the Mooseworld Online Store.
"I love moose also. I have a collection of, among a lot of things, a moose cookie cutter collection and souvenir moose spoon collection. Very unique. Here are a few shots of my favorite wall. I have 30+ spoons, and all are different, each with a unique moose on them. My cookie cutter/press collection is 26 strong. All different in one way or another. I have also "adopted" two moose from our zoo. A male I named Sir Edward (he was very arrogant), and a female I named Millenia ( because I adopted her in 2000). This adoption program helps in the care of the moose. Lots of fun, and interesting to study. In 2001 I went to Maine and followed some through the woods. Not always a wise thing to do, but amazing to watch. Thanks for a great site. Marcie." Mooseworld: Thank you for sharing your collection. We agree that the moose spoons and cookie cutter collections are very special. Marcie adopted her moose at one of the few North American zoos to have moose in captivity, the Columbus (Ohio) Zoo. "I am glad to see that I am not the only person who collects moose avidly. My collection currently stands at just under a hundred and there are some really unique ones in it. Among some of the my favorites are my gold-infused glass moose on an amathyst base and my personalized licence plates. I even have a moose ocarina which is a musical instrument. I love you site an I am grateful I can share my love of moose with others. Todd." Mooseworld: We hope Todd's collection grew over the recent holiday season. We know ours did! "Hi, my name is Nanci and I thought I would share my story about how the moose is special to me and my group of friends. Even though we all in our middle 20's, we have a club called "The Moose Club." Each one of us has a Beanie Buddy named Chocolate. To us, whenever we see anything that is moose, we think of our friendship with each other and how it is important to us. It's funny how just when I see a moose, a smile comes to my face. My kitchen will be moose so whenever I find something mooseish, I buy it. :) Mooses are #1 in my book, along with pink flamingos." Mooseworld: Yes, moose are special. We hope that everyone who feels this way has read the essays in the Mooseopia section of Mooseworld. "I am a girl from Denmark who is 19 years old, and I met my first moose when I was ten years old. My father bought him in Norway, and he is small and fluffy, and his name is Helge (the Danish word for moose is "elg"). Few months later, Helge's mother, Helga, came to Denmark to join him, and soon the whole family considered moving here. Helga has a lot of calvesthis moment, 76 of them are living with me. Furthermore, I have loads of pictures, small plastic moose, magnets, bags and so on and so on... All together there must be about 200 moose in my apartment. And the ones who are "alive" all have names than contain either the word "elg" (= moose) or "moose." I really am nuts about moose (as you may notice when reading my e-mail address), and therefore I simply LOVE your homepage!!! Greeting from a lot of mooses and Marie from Denmark." Mooseworld: Thank you, Marie. The fact that moose are called "elk" in Europe is reflected by the Danish word "elg." And Marie has a lot of elg! "I am a moose lover from Texas...hard to believe? If you saw my house you would believe it, I've turned my old country house that has been in the family for decades into a cabin that looks like it should be in the mountains. I have moose galore, pine trees, pinecones, snowshoes, and anything else that even relates to the forest and moose. Items related to the kitchen include so many mugs I couldn't possibly count them all. A canister set, cookie jar, dishes, bake ware, sugar bowl with matching creamer, salt and pepper shakers, iron napkin holder, 4 sets of placemats, cutting board, wooden tray, basket, rugs, kitchen towels and pot holders, and refrigerator magnets. Moving to the next room, which my husband and daughter like to call "the den," or living room has floor and table lamps, picture frames, photo albums, candle holders, figurines, a snow globe, three pictures that my mother cross-stitched for me, pillows, quilts, throws, and an iron bucket planter. Then for the bedroom, three different sets of sheets, two tote bags, two make-up bags, three leather purses, key chains, sweaters, t-shirts, and a cap to match. For the bathroom, I have a moose toothbrush holder, bath towels, as well as hand towels, and occasionally I'll find a new design of a moose shower curtain and accessories to change things up a bit. Some odds and ends I have around the house otherwise include seven stuffed moose, one which is very special to me named simply "Moosie," given to me while I was in the hospital by my husband and daughter when I had surgery this past August. I also have six hardback moose books, and four other books that are interesting to read and learn about moose! In other rooms of "my cabin" I have wooden signs and such with moose on them, hat racks, key holders, a letter holder, pencil holder, sets of coasters, and 3 metal boxes with moose designs, and my laundry room curtain. And outside since we don't have a doorbell we have an iron moose bell. At Christmas time my tree transforms into a "mooseworld," with all sorts of little ornaments and such. Then it is all topped off with an iron moose tree top. To count down the days until Christmas, I have a number of moose calendars. This is the majority of my moose collection but I'm sure I left some things out! Cindy" Mooseworld: We believe it. After starting Mooseworld we discovered that moose lovers live everywhere. In a hectic and uncertain world, what better animal to love than one who by nature is not a predator and, when you see one in the wild, appears to you as a "gentle giant." So a houseful of moose is a peaceful house. "I have been married to a moose for 33 years. I met my husband in Alaska and brought back a live moose. Every thing in my house is moose. When Christmas comes around I pack up most of this and display only Chrismoose, and Merry Chrismoose items and my herd of stuffed moose animals. And, of course, an original moose rack from a hunt by my husband in Alaska in 1967. The only item I am missing in my house is a metal tea kettle. If anyone can help please let me know. Thank you for letting me share only a little of my collection. Sheri Moose." Mooseworld: This is a very extensive collection. What impresses us the most is "...and more." We hope Sheri finds the tea kettle!
"Thank you for such a great Web site. I'm an avid moose collector. Inside and outside of my home I have over 100 moose items thus far. As well as collecting them I'm married to one! My husband has been called Moose since he was a small child. I'm addicted to everything about the massive docile animal. My dream vacation is to moose watch in Maine. Just so you know how bad I have it, we recently purchased a used pop-up camper and have completely restored it with moose-covered fabrics. What fun would it be to be away camping without my moose around me? I even lucked out and found moose party lights to hang on the front of the camper so I can enjoy my moose at night. There is no animal in our world that captures the beauty and peace as the wonderful moose. They are beautiful in every way. I look forward to visiting each of the stores you listed. I also wanted to tell you of another store that sells nothing but Moose stuff. It is strictlymoose.com. They have lots of unique gifts and home decor products. I have purchased several items from them. I even found a moose chew toy for my dogs in their store. Thanks again for offering a place for all moose lovers to enjoy!" Mooseworld: We'll have to be on the lookout for a camper with moose party lights! And wasn't there a movie called "Married to the Moose?" Wait, that was something else... "Thank you for all the moose information available on your site. I enjoy it very much! I started collecting in 2000 (or thereabouts). I live in Florida but my wife grew up in Maine. I love to visit there and go on moose watch and have driven all over northern Maine looking. Not until recent years have I gotten to see and photograph any, but am definitely hooked. This past summer I saw a huge bull moose for the first timeneither one of my cameras worked for any photos the entire vacation. :( I started a collection of moose items including stuffed, ceramic figurines, pictures (photos I have taken and paintings I have done), etc. I recently painted a moose and pine tree border around my office. Some of my students counted 100+ items in my office. I also have a number of things at my home plus moose stickers and beanie babies in both my vehicles. On Saturday's I usually have a moose T-shirt on. I am a moose fanaticI intend on naming my next dog moose since my wife doesn't think it is an appropriate name for any of our children. Thanks again for Mooseworld." Mooseworld: Thank you to David for the compliments on Mooseworld. Why do we think that if we traveled to Florida we might be able to spot David? "I started collecting moose about seven years ago. It's great how friends love to help add to that collection. I have moose wind chimes, figurines, slippers, socks, placemats, comforter cover, picture frames, candle holders, pajamas, calendar, refrigerator magnets, rocking moose for my two-year old (instead of a rocking horse), stuffed animals, key chain, silver pins, necklace, a huge print of Stephen Lyman's " A Walk in the Woods" hanging in my living room, and thanks to my trips out to Jackson Hole and Yellowstone, I also have wonderful photos of my beloved moose." Mooseworld: This is another great collection of moose items, and we're going to try to find out where Lisa got those slippers since so many people write about them. "I have been collecting moose items since I got my first elkhound, or moose hound, more than 10 years ago. I now have four Elkhounds which I show and a room full of moose: I have throw pillows, Boyds bear items, ornaments, sweatshirts, picture frames, plush moose, plates, trivets, and I'm still lookingmy dogs have moose toys. Our elkhound club had an all moose raffle at our regional dog show. I need more room, so I may have to move to a bigger house. This is a great site. Penny and "elkies" Turee, Sunny, Bonnie, and 9-week-old Niko." Mooseworld: Thanks for sharing your collection. L.L.Bean used to have a great moose dog bed, perfect for the elkhounds! "Hello, my name is Mark and I am a moose collector. I am 32 years old. My friends think I have lost my mind, but I think there is nothing wrong with collecting moose because I think moose are fantastic. I hate where I live because people are so rude, therefore, collecting moose is the one thing I really love to do. Basically, it keeps me sane.
It all started 14 years ago when my nickname in high school was moose. Since then I have collected every moose item imaginable. On my wedding cake I had a moose groom and moose bride. I live in a one bedroom apartment in Los Angeles and it is a moose factory. For example, I have one hundred stuffed animal moose. Here is a list of my moose collection: Mooseworld: Wow! And we though we had a lot of moose items. The funny thing is that when we asked Mark if we could publish this message he said "after I sent my email, I found a lot more items that I didn't include in my moose collection." Maybe we'll some day have to have a separate section of Mooseworld titled "Mark's Moose Collection!" "Hi thereI just found your wonderful page a few days ago and I have already printed many things and have a mom and daughter moose as our wallpaper. I have been collecting moose for several years, although the closest I have ever come to a real one is a stuffed specimen at a sport show. But, I love them, ever since I got a mantle cover that had a few on it. It just exploded from there. Every one I know gives them to me as gifts for every occasion. I have all the Boyd's stuffed ones and many of their resin ones, and every other brand there is. My Christmas tree this year was "moose, all moose" and everyone loved it, especially me. My collection is mostly in our living room, but the overflow has expanded into the guest room. So of course, the cover on the futon is moose also. It is fun to look at your page and read how I am not the only "moose-aholic" in the world." Mooseworld: Collecting moose items is very popular. One major sporting goods store that has a "gift lodge" sells more moose products than anything else. And why not? Moose are the best!
Mooseworld: Just in time for Christmas, 2000, comes this picture from Anne in Alabama. Thanks again from Mooseworld! "I have been a moose maniac for about 10 years, since I acquired a pen-pal in North Pole, Alaska and she started mailing me pictures of moose strolling through her back yard. I fell in love with their big dopey faces and it just went on from there. I have shelves of moose figurines, moose books (two of my favorites are Blue Moose and If You Give a Moose a Muffin), stuffed animal moose, a closet full of moose T-Shirts, moose magnets, picture frames, coffee cup, cereal bowlthe list goes on and on. And all this from an Alabama girl who has never been anywhere near a real moose! I have recorded moose documentaries from the Discovery Channel, and every Christmas I add a new moose ornament to our tree and get a calendar to hang on my bedroom door. I even persuaded a perfect stranger I met on the Internet to send me moose pictures her grandmother had taken. I have several stories of folks who have encountered moose in person, and tell them to anyone who will listen. One day I just know I will see one in person, and I hope it's during their mellow time so I can get as close as possible. Well, thanks for listening! Merry Moosemas, A Fellow Moose-Lover." Mooseworld: We hope you get to see moose someday too. Be sure that when you do you follow our Viewing Moose Safely guidelines (under Sightings). And thanks for the holiday wishes. |
